Workers’ Compensation

If employees sustain a work related injury, they should immediately call CorVel at 877-764-3574.

When you call CorVel, you will be connected with a registered nurse who will:

  • Obtain necessary information
  • Evaluate the nature of your injury
  • Determine your immediate medical needs
  • Provide you with further instructions including where you may find the nearest DPS designated medical provider

If your injury is a life or limb-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency provider.

Notify your supervisor of your work related injury as required by your school and/or department. We strongly recommend notification to your supervisor within 24 hours of the injury.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Employers within the State of Colorado have the right to designate medical providers for their injured employees. DPS has designated the following medical providers for our injured employees. Should you seek medical treatment for a work related injury from your private physician or through another clinic or hospital, you may be financially responsible for that care. If your injury is a life or limb-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency provider.

Wage Continuation Policy

WCP – Wage Continuation Period — If an employee is injured on the job within the course and scope of his/her employment, and the injury is covered by workers’ compensation as required by law and due to that work-related injury the employee is unable to work, the employee will continue to be paid his/her pre-injury salary/benefits during a Wage Continuation Period (“WCP”). The WCP is defined as four (4) calendar months from an employee’s date of injury, or through the date of employee’s termination, or through the end of their work year; whichever is sooner. An employee will not be charged with any earned vacation leave or sick leave for any approved time missed due to a workers’ compensation covered injury during the WCP. Consult Risk Management with questions.

FMLA, if available, will run concurrently with any missed time due to a work-related injury.
