Gifted and Talented

At Bryant Webster, we focus “on the whole child, providing a balanced education,” and helping students to become “successful, bilingual and bi-literate, culturally aware, college and career ready, technologically responsible, global citizens prepared for the 21st century.”

In order to support the BW mission and vision, our gifted students participate in pull-out and/or push-in groups to develop higher-order thinking skills, expand their creativity, and strengthen students’ strategies and skills for effective needs.  The Gifted and Talented teacher will conduct Universal Screening during the Fall for Kinder, 2nd and 6th graders.  Any potential students who demonstrate qualifying data will be placed in a “Talent Pool” and will be monitored for additional data for their body of evidence that can be used for formal GT identification.  Communication about GT programming, identification, or testing will go to staff and parents as needed throughout the school year.

The GT teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to enrich and extend the regular classroom curriculum beyond the core curriculum as well as challenge students to think critically and develop higher-level thinking skills that meet their emotional, intellectual, and creative potentials using culturally responsive teaching.

In addition to academic extensions, we offer enrichment opportunities such as mentorship pairings through Community Resources Inc. where students meet with academic mentors to explore a career of their choice (ex: medicine, website design, photography). We also have a unique program for select 7th and 8th graders called STEM Scholars, where they are paired with a medical school student to learn about science, medical school, research, etc. These programs not only engage students in one-on-one in-depth learning, but also build students’ leadership skills, organizational skills, and presentation skills.
